| well, this topic is tricky to answer. i'm fairly torn on this subject, but i'll try my best to convey how i feel on this topic with (hopefully) not pissing too many people off lol.
on one hand, you have people who would like to make a living off of doing the things they love (in this case, creating mugen characters) but for whatever reason it may be, it can't be done and are forced to work at a cruddy job at mcdonalds, barely making living wage if they're working 4 days a week. on the other, you have the group of people who would feel intitled to it if it became a thing, regardless on how bad their work would be.
In my personal opinion, it would be nice to see this as a thing, so we would see more people working on characters they would love to breath life into the game since there would be pay off for their work, but only as a free donation type ordeal. it would get rediculous if people started charging others to download their characters that might not be that well done in the first place, but that's just how i see it, i'm sure there are a lot of people who are against this, and that's fine by me. | |

| in my years at mugen, 3 guys already come to me with a deal to do char for money, and i said no to all, not because i dont like money, i love money, i just dont like they chars ideias, and if i do one char which i dont like.... where is the fun? i already have one not fun job which pay me. ... so you may tink, "what if someone offer money to you finish your wips quickly" If i rush, fun and quality goes away (why someone will pay for something which i will do for free anyway) ... so i just put a paypal donate banner at site, no promises, with ads it helps at least to pay for host bill | |

| Mugen commission are fine, you pay to someone only for their time inverted into making some worthwhile(I want to believe) content for you, because you think you lack the "skills", don't have time, or are just plain lazy, be either sprites/artwork/coding.
Having said that, mugen related, I'd really never commission anyone, in my case, with the belief that anyone can develop the needed skills if put enough brains into it , I'd rather learn myself to make what I need instead of paying someone to do it for me.

| Sometimes money can destroy things, even a large community, friendships, like the gold rush that made people kill themselves, in addition to sell something in mugen you would have to create original material, without using bases of capcom or any other, but I'm sure it's not worth it, just play in peace and have patience for releases | |

| That could destroy the beauty of the internet my friend a world outside of constricting illusion of money the only reason I don't believe in it is because I can afford to so an advanced apology if I offended anyone people who host things on the internet are not motivated by money and that's why everything is free you wanna talk about liberty I give you the internet anyway I can understand and appreciate the thought though it is the thought that counts but the internet is a free world and that's one of the things that make mugen awesome | |

| I don't see how commissions are the "downfall of mugen." Money is a great incentive to put out time and quality work into your hobby. It's not illegal either, as long as you're not selling the engine itself. If you're not profiting off the engine, its fine. Peopl commission spritesheets, even at Guild, all the time. it;s not an uncommon thing in and out of the MUGEN world. It's also not so far-fetched to pay someone to help code your stuff, tho most people will code commissioned spritesheets for free. The way I see it, MUGEN is a hobby, and if people wanna make money off their hobby, power to them. It's a great way to do what you love and make some cash, and for those paying it is an awesome way to both show support and get what you love. Money is a great way to keep your favorite spriters and coders in the MUGEN game, because there is an opportunity cost associated with taking the time to sprite/code a character. | |
