Goblins are indeed a bit lackluster in the current version. The idea behind their wing engine is good but their gameplay doesn't feel that appealing actually. Happy to know you're working on improving them !
yep, both me and Wil.li.an did a lot of work on them almost every sprite was reworked and unique sprite count almost doubled from ~150 to ~300 so visually they will be significantly improved (not finished yet). gameplay though will stay relatively unchanged, just new effects, few new specials and hypers, impact, velocity changes and such, so dont expect new gameplay, just polished old one with new features. focus was on visual side mostly

Gameplay feelings can be really improved by better graphics I think.
I have a few new inputs after playing arcade mode a couple of times:
Spider-man is never an opponent in arcade mode. Is that on purpose ?
Arcade mode always makes you fight the whole roster. Sometimes it feels a bit too long to fight against 16+ opponents. Maybe limit to 8-10 encounters by selecting random fighters in the roster ?
I noticed some characters don't have the roll recovery move (morbius, doc ock and scorpion, to name a few). Is that on purpose too ?
Best regards.
Baelorn.

well hopefully gameplay will improve there are some adjustments to velocity and impacts of rockets and such
in terms of glider, it could be made more "realistic" by having delays and wind-up periods for movements, but it will make goblins very awkward to control and not really good for competitive purposes i think. if there is some air character control scheme that you guys know would be good for the glider, you can send me such char, maybe something can be implemented. but for now glider movements are the same
i had an idea at some point to make goblins be able to switch between glider and on foot modes, but i figured almost nobody would use the on ground goblin, he is almost never seen like this anyway, and amount of work would just not be justified by this little gimmick i think
spidey and symbiote spidey were excluded from arcade previously because they didn't really had flashy stages like the rest. but now they have another reason to stay excluded because of the story. and same reason why all 16 villains would have to stay, since they all tied in the story now
Spoiler:
i guess it is a good time to mention that there will be 2 versions of the next update released btw, one is with the story mode included, closed to edits, and the other is exactly the same, but with story mode stuff cut out and open for editing. the reason for splitting is because story mode just includes a lot of code triggers within the characters, sadly mugen doesn't allow to do proper cutscenes and dialogues without resorting to coding trickery. as a result even very small changes to story mode version (like changing arcade order or adding new character to select.def) will cause bugs in it, so the release will have to be split into 2 versions, 1 is complete game with the story, and another is arcade version for people to edit and add their own stuff as usual without having to worry about messing anything up (again exactly the same games, one just with story mode stuff cut out)

Will the story mode replace arcade mode in the next version or will it be added as a whole new game mode ?

it will replace it only for spider-man and symbiote spider and only in the story mode game version release sadly there is no way to do a dedicated story mode separated from arcade in mugen ikemen i think allows for it, maybe i will do another attempt at the transfer after we do this release but transferring to a different engine will inevitably cause a lot of bugs, so id rather have a stable release first and only then experiment

No problem, this seems a fair trade.
I retry playing with the two goblins and Green Goblin seems the most interesting of them. You have different curves for his grenades depending on the punch button you use and it's easier to use his special moves while floating in the air. Maybe three different projectiles are a bit too much but they seem all usefull.
Hobgoblin's grenades feel a bit clunky. You can choose the speed for the first ones (depending on the punch button you use) but it's not that usefull. The second ones with a delay take too much time to explode.

It’s dope you are still working on this.
Down the road I hope you get the help to bring it to ikeman
Could open up the door to some cool possibilities especially with tag

@Baelorn yes, old hobgoblin projectiles are very clunky in general hobgoblin will be completely new version, not using any sprites or code from the old one made by Darktalbain it will be built upon new green goblin sprites and has modified green goblin moves. just much cleaner this way
@warecus yeah man, a ton of work already been done, majority of it actually, but my mugen free time is significantly shortened now, because the quarantine ended. so it kind of went into that slow-pace phase, like some projects in the past, dragging, even though not that much work left. Wil.li.an also has to focus on his main project like Mandarin they making with Candido
ikemen transition, if done, will truly bring a lot of neat things storymode could be done there without any coding trickery, which will eliminate the need for 2 game versions also the characters can have different opponents order there, meaning other stories like venom's or black cat's ones can be done with more narrative freedom interactive stages, proper in-fight dialogues and cutscenes, real movelist, just a bunch of cool things
hopefully by the time i attempt the transition ikemen is sophisticated enough to allow it with little work

This was truly the best game ever made in the history of mugen, spider deserved it, and migrating to ikemen, if it is made, will really bring a lot of cool things that I want to see, I can only be grateful until now, it's a shame I didn't have It takes talent to be able to be a part of this, but I'm glad it happened by someone as talented as you.

well, ikemen is still just a thought guys, but thank you
this update will be both equally mine and Wil.li.an work with me doing more work on story mode and with him doing more work on character updates and pretty much us equally sharing what was done on goblins

BP and will.i.an will absolutely nail this update. This is one of the best team up we had in years.
