Feedback needed on best of 2013 award voting (Poll added)

I'm not a fan of these votings for best whatever, it always becomes a popularity contest, I also think team staff should be exempt, if we are to do this properly, as this would be for the fans and new creators best it involves them not nominating favorite team members

Again, if we do this:
- Will be due to what the community votes. If its close, then further credence will be lent to topic replies
- 3 awards only. New Char, Updated Char, Creator. Why? Because its easy to suggest doing a ton of categories, but alot more work for actually doing the nominations, handling voting procedure and GFX

Also, we will not be exempting anyone, including team members or staff. If we do this, part of the reason is for appreciation to whoever and we're not going to leave out the people that made the most effort to give back to our community.

And I retract my earlier comment about forgone conclusion regarding creator of the year. chuchoryu has a real chance considering how many things he released in 2013.

I think it may be worth spending contests and not one who is better!

Red Hood, you are welcome to do that, but if its done, we'd like it to be quarterly, not monthly.

*IF* we are to do annual awards for 2013, would anyone be willing to volunteer to make graphics for the winners?

We'll probably give a forum section for Red Hood to do his thing, probably re-purposing the Character Review one into it and move all those topics.

Hopefully, he'll have a volunteer to help him.

If we do have best of 2013 awards (poll right now in favor of it), we'll use that as the premiere for that new forum section.

Look fine to me Red Hood.

Okay, looks like the community has just about decided to be in favor of this and sense Red Hood volunteered for seasonal awards, need to figure that out as the Best of 2013 awards will open the all new forum section for him to use.

Idea for the seasonal (once every 3 months in a quarterly fashion) awards:
- Have it be a creation award and not only for characters. That will make the award a little more unique and allow focus for really good stages and screenpacks (and any utility that may come out in the time period). Characters will probably still win, but offers up the differences stated above.

Also, should we figure out a tie in factor for next years Best of Awards regarding what happens with the quarterly awards? And if do that, what would you think about the 2013 awards only being for creator and new character of the year?

Am not Interested in this personally but whatever brings in more traffic to the site is good

Okay for this in 2013, i will start the polls saturday. Wink

bUT for the seasonal awards i think we should have 2 sections: "creation" and "chars" cause you need at least 300 sprites to make a good char and then add coding
But screenpacks, stages,... take less time. (i should know cause i do them right now) lol!

Red Hood,

Don't do anything with the Best of 2013 poll yet please, especially since we still need to take nominations for it. But can't do that yet as wanted to finalize how the new forum area will work regarding seasonal awards.

Current concept:
- Done every 3 months
- Will have a section to track winners sticky
- Will have a topic open all the time to allow for things to think about and discuss prior to nominations
- Each forum member gets only 3 nominations and it takes a creation 3 nominations to become officially eligible
- Will work as a feed to the best of awards for the next year

I think it'd be better to not have a creator section and save it for the annual best of awards. Why? Because odds are, that will definitely turn into a popularity thing and/or being redundant to the creator of the character winning for the time period.

I know what you are saying regarding screenpacks and stages being contested with against characters. The characters will always win. However, if do it like a "Best Creation" for the period...
- It will set apart what we are trying to do with awards in that manner from other like minded things
- Gives some focus on really good creations other than characters. Might not win, but the attention would be good

Really hoping that is how we can do it all, but won't re-purpose for the new forum section until each detail is finalized for it.
