ARE PNG IMAGES A HEADACHE FOR YOU?

actually the png images are used into the characters and stages for mugen and screenpacks too.
they can seems with a color loss or with a blurred looking in some situations.

you need to convert all images to 256 colors in PNG, it becomes possible the image creates all the 256 colors and guaranteeing a better quality being save in 8 bits like a png.
mainly if this image is a low resolution, but in case of you are using a png image with hi-resolution you must to decide if you want the image with 256 colors or with the normal colors.

-------------------------------------------

Warning......

never use png images for low-res stages without makes the conversion to 256 colors and saving it like PNG 8 bits,it makes your stages has not the blurred looking when some image pass on each other image during the game.

No... to me JPG is.
After getting a JPEG, when i try to convert them into png or do some editing to the image itself i lose quality of the image, not just in colors, but they also blur the image after being saved.
Jpgs are used for photos, because it saves space on your computer (from losing the quality of the image) period.

However, png is a good image format because it's one of the few image formats that can have transparency

BMP images won't lose quality like many other formats (JPEG is the only one that does it that i can think of), but it stores alot more space in your computer than png, it shouldn't be too much of a problem if you have alot of space in you computer tho.

I have no problem with PNGs.  For 8-bit images I can use my trusty PSP7 to make transparency.  For 16/32-bit images I can use the more powerful IrfanView to make transparency.  I think IrfanView can do a better job on minimizing color-loss with 16/32-bit=>8-bit PNG conversions. yes
