Thanos is kind of just a rip-off of Darkseid in a lot of ways...Darkseid is the original comic book ultimate evil, created by Jack 'The King' Kirby. Darkseid has the more interesting and epic origin, way better supporting characters (Desaad, Granny Goodness, Kalibak, Kanto, Steppenwolf, The Parademons, Hunger Dogs, etc), a waaaaay cooler son (Orion), and rules his own hellish planet (Apokolips), full of fire pits, monsters, and terror. And I love Jim Starlin (Thanos creator)and Thanos, Infinity Gauntlet is one of my all time favorite stories, but there's just no competition...Darkseid IS.
If you want to see exactly what I mean, pick up the ultimate Darkseid story, 'JLA - Rock of Ages' by Grant Morrison and Howard Porter. It's one of the greatest Justice League and Darkseid stories of all time, I promise you will not be disappointed. It's also one of the most "bad-ass" Batman stories...read it to see what I mean...
