This is how things should work, because not everything is opensource. And this kind of respect shown by JEDDragon should be applied to all users, not just to AX.

People,shit is not open sourced unless creator says so,sooooo if you are not sure dont take the liberty and just use or claim it for yourself,message or email the creator for permission,there are many mugen forums you may reach them at unless they are deceased or inactive.in that situation look at they're works readme file for info on the source. This has been a huge issue for awhile now and its gotten sickening and out of control. Personally for me if i come across a fight/spat in a topic where this issue is going on I will erase those messages over and over and pm the people arguing to handle it in chat and resolve the issue,if issue doesn't get resolved I hope other mods and leaders here agree with me not to host said argued item here at MMV,but if the person would like to pm the upload link to other members thats theyre call.i hope people can agree with me on this debated bastard of an issue.

I don't see this as an issue, open source is a preference for each creator, i don't want my work open source. But creators like ax are ok with it and encourage it, its all preference.
personally i think when I'm done creating mugen characters ill set my own works into that category, but until then its a no, i find the good and bad side regarding open source material

the good is you can make characters quicker, but learn nothing of properly spriting and making your work from scratch, especially when you have a missing animation, like a get hit that is just ends up being reused from another sprite, which then makes the wip look lazy, other things are walk back, and forward anims being the same, its all about cutting corners to complete the mission, but if your cool with that its not a big deal, but if aren't it can teach you to create from bases or scratch to what's needed, for the sake of the character

the bad, headswapping. Using another creators entire character work, to just make another alternate version of the character, or someone who looks very similar, i don't want this to happen to anyone's work, but it happens, and its lazy, and basically slaps the face of the original creator, coz even if the work is good in the end, the current creator that has headswapped basically claims all the work themselves, so open source or not, please credit the creators

perfect example of crediting is zvitor's pyro
its actually called pyro by killacroc, and zvitor
so regardless of how good/bad the previous character work was, zvitor still calls it killscroc's pyro, so that's all great coz he improved the character and made sure that the world knew it was not possible without Killacroc's work

it all not rocket science, you work something, treat it with respect as you would like to be respected for it
you use something? Think of what is it that your using and if its worth using it, do you really need the walk backward? Is someone's work so unique that there is no way to create what you want to, by using it, and then if they are not happy that you did (as it wasn't permitted or opensourced) are you willing to start over, or throw consequences to the wind, and do it regardless, thus ending up infamous for it,

there's no justification for plagiarism, and once you've learned how to create by finishing a few characters, you'll see it's just easy to create whatever with the current bases that are opensource
coz if it exists already, someone made it from scatch, and that means you can too, all im saying is be wary of what your end result looks like, if you want your work to be great, treat each animation a brick to building the sturdy house

Ax has an "open relationship" with MUGEN and is always willing to "try new stuff" in his bedroom (where his computer desk is).

Need to add a couple things.

MODOK and Apocalypse cannot be stated as completely open source. Both had other people (volzzilla and Arkady for MODOK and RobiWanKenobi for Apocalypse) that did alot of editing of the sprites toward character creation. If someone wanted to take those sprites to sprite edit into something all new (For example, maybe turning MODOK into Armin Zola), then by our rules that is fine. This statement is more in reference to taking the character sprites toward editing into your own version of that same character.
