What's funny is there's actually a Hyper Sonic in the games, but he only appears in one game and was only thrown in as a justification for going through the stupid Blue Spheres special stages even though you already have all the Chaos Emeralds.

I guess it has more to do with the fact that I just converted GBA sprites and it apparently wasn't done well enough
