| Hello Guys! I'm having difficulty navigating the forum because i never used one before, and couldn't find anything specific to my question on the searches. Apologies in advance if this was asked before. So, me and a friend are making a mugen game based on our friends. He will be responsible for the technical stuff part, and i will be taking the pictures from our friends to create the sprite sheet. I don't know if this has been done before, but from a technical standpoint i think it is pretty straightforward, but i don't know if there are any limitations from the game to use real life pictures. Is there any "cheat sheet" with the info i need to create these pictures? Size, bit rate, proportions and etc? Also, is there a template list of movements for me to use as a reference while making the pictures? So i have complete and (mostly) smooth animations? I will make the pictures and after cleaning the backgrounds, i will be passing them through a filter to make them look pixelated. We are hoping to achieve something similar to mortal kombat 3. Thanks a lot guys! | |

Thanks a lot guys! What you're making is definitely possible. Mugen can accommodate pixelated (a la mortal kombat) and HD sprites (to some extent, there are many HD-sprited chars out there). For template list of movements, you basically need to decide what style your character will have. There are tons of templates (MvC-, CvS-, VS-, KoF-, MK-style are some of most popular styles). For starting point, you can even debunk one existing character of your choice (in fighter factory) to see what sprites are needed. To achieve smooth animations is tricky, most of the case is to make enough in-between movement sprites. PS: Welcome to the forum. | |

| Yeah, that's more than possible, first of all : - make the frames of animations of chars (you need a classic "green screen" background for the photos, you can check some tutorials about cinema filming for "chroma key", the background color will be very important about mugen character creation) you can just directly record your friends with any video-camera or learn more about step-motion films technique by lurking on the net. - convert all sprites to the same palette (256 with first color as green or magenta or whatever the background transparency you choose as color), I use Corel Paint Shop Pro to batch convert them... but again, knowledge is needed - get fighter factory - get some mortal kombat characters and replace their sprites - learn about palettes in MUGEN (this will be basically the most important thing, basically you can just get MUGEN and check the whole "docs" folder) - take a lot of time because it will mean a lot of time (learning all commands, etc.) - have fun If you want to "cheat" on that or do things fast, you can just edit some existing mortal kombat or photographed character... but again, opening and editing them will require knowledge so, bad news, sorry, there's no quick way through, just a lot of pain (that can retribute in good results, though). OR You can collect your friends money and hire one or more coders/programmers to do that for you (if you really don't want to take the long and hard path to MUGEN jedi knowledge ), that'll contribute the community I guess | |
