| MUGEN is known for being an "Ultimate Crossover fighting game" but did they have that idea in hand in the first place? Was it meant to be an engine to create games or to screw around with characters from across different types of media? | |

| From Elecbyte's official readme: - Code:
-
Why M.U.G.E.N? --------------
To tell you the truth, we were making a shooting game and all of a sudden it turned into this. Although we were making a shooting game in the beginning, we noticed that there weren't any good commercial fighting games on the PC at the time. Some of the inspiration came from early engines like SFIBM. I sometimes wonder that, if, I mean IF, there were existing some more PC fighting games in those times then would Elecbyte give up turning their "shooting game engine" to the nowadays' MUGEN fighting game engine? And do you remember TESTP, who was probably one of the first MUGEN Makers to try to mugenize some existing fighting game characters for the very early build of MUGEN engine: Shinobu Kawasaki/Guile/Blue Mary/Xia Hou Dun/Yuri C-Type Hey this might be the first ever Crossover MUGEN game since 1999! | |
