WHAT´S THE FUTURE OF MUGEN ENGINE WITHOUT ELECBYTE and VIRTUALTEK?
The Elecbyte and virtualtek looks to have end their activities forever. the latest version of mugen engine is 1.1 and somewhat like 1.2 or 1.3 is a impossible reality.
both Elecbyte and virtualtek left a legacy and a great tool at the latest versions. i would like so much to see automatic animated portraits system with a optional normal portrait too.
storyline or a script addition system tool could be very enriching for to make a fullgame.
a new version of virtualtek could to bring out a new update with a preset codes for a projectile, moves, anims and hypers to help the beginners.
i don´t know if the both engine will receive a new version or a updated by any programmer, but i cheer for these may happens someday.

the future is bleak. the hobby is already dying and has been for awhile because:
- people stop interacting in forums and just go wherever to download whatever. less people offering support to creators increases odds of creators losing interest in spending all the the time they do on creation - people doing the bulk of their internet on devices that can't play mugen - games like injustice, mvc infinite and the like satisfying the fighting game genre fans more than mugen

That's a great question Maze. I've often wondered about that myself. I've looked into programs like ShugenDo: as a MUGEN alternative and Miku Miku Dance: for making sprites a bit easier. However, I think the coding learning code curve is what keeps or what has kept MUGEN from being accessible to more people. It breaks my heart to see the WIP tracker and to know that many of those beautiful sprites will not see the light of day because of that learning curve.... Perhaps we as a community can pool our knowldege and update ShugenDo, the MUGEN engine or continue to mod the UMvC3 or the coming MvC Infinite...

As for me, Mugen is the best fighting system. I have played Injustice, MvC, but... all the time I come back to Mugen. Big corporations are more interested in money. That's why I hate MKX and believe, that it is worst game ever in MK franchise. But MUGEN - is the world, where fans do things cause they like it. For example, Arkady and Logansam are making original characters, so close to comics, cartoons, e.t.c. And there are so many versions... so many opinions, views. It is possible only in MUGEN! And I'am proud that MMV - is the place where Mugen live and will live forever.

in the past years mugen had a lot of content to offer, awesome works, editing with original ideas and a lot of good creators.
but right now and sorry to say like this but we only have spriteswapps everywhere, the people uses a lot of excuses to release ugly works. right now i only see old chars with new palettes and different heads.
and plus the Mufuck of mugen archive that are only waiting to fill of whatever you releases to gain money from it.
mugen is dying, and if the new people continue releasing that cheap work. is a dead wish.

I'am geologist in profession... and I need to say that there are always a lot of stones and dirt... but between them there are always gold and diamonds. We tend to notice a quality product, not all kinds of shit. The gaming industry as a whole is going through hard times. Many primitive and stupid projects, but you can always find something interesting. You do not need to pay attention to lazy people, who smirk at someone else's work. It is worth paying attention to the delightful work. There are a lot of them too.

So this is just another kind of "MUGEN is dying" topic?
I am not going into "MUGEN is dying or MUGEN is still kicking" discussion here, as everybody has his/her/its own opinion on that, I am talking more about what the topic says, "what if....without Elecbyte and VirualTek."
Elecbyte here => anybody remember the MUGEN times when Elecbyte's MUGEN engine "evolved" from DOSMUGEN to WinMUGEN? And from WinMUGEN to MUGEN1.0 then to MUGEN1.1? The "DOSMUGEN to WinMUGEN" times were giving the most impact because that was kind of unexpected and was not that official, while the "WinMUGEN to MUGEN1.0/1.1" times were official and it did some big improvement and surprise too. Indeed with MUGEN1.0/1.1 those MUGEN Makers can do something more interesting than in the past, yet, there are still some more "limits" (hey, doesn't MUGEN mean "unlimited") to be awaited to overcome. One (1) big example is the very limited MUGEN Custom States. Nowadays fighting games seem to tend to put the get-hit victims into many different kinds of states, such as self/forced-transformations (with accessories) and big-time sceneries. With the current MUGEN1.0/1.1's very limited MUGEN Custom States, it makes it nearly impossible to make without mugenizing everything in a MUGEN full-game. Another example is MUGEN real stage interactions. OK, even some old fighting game features like real tag team support is still unavailable in the current MUGEN1.0/1.1.
Therefore, it should be clear that without Elecbyte's possible future update(s), many more newer fighting games' features may stay "un-mugenizable". Simply put, current MUGEN Engine stays the same, while more newer fighting games (even action games) are keeping up with updated features.
VirualTek here => Fighter Factory 3/Ultimate is already quite useful to me in fact. Yet I know for MUGEN code support it still has a lot of rooms to do. I think it is very hard for some future Fighter Factory to be able to let its users add some complicated MUGEN code like a MUGEN Helper Projectile in terms of some preset, simply because there are 100s of ways to code the same move, and each move depends on what the MUGEN Maker wants........well, I don't know, perhaps VirualTek is able to come up with a cool way for making anything handy. My biggest Fighter Factory wish-listed feature item would be that, it can auto-align all input sprites by itself, when I try to add 1000s of sprites in my MUGEN SFF file.......
I agree with what RyoHazaki said, "....I think the coding learning code curve is what keeps or what has kept MUGEN from being accessible to more people. It breaks my heart to see the WIP tracker and to know that many of those beautiful sprites will not see the light of day because of that learning curve...." For MUGEN Makers, each has his/her/its own ways to learn and has different styles, some can make some good MUGEN stuff even in their 1st first try, some stay the same all the times without much advancement no matter how many times he/she/it tries (like borewood2013). One can give up easily if his/her/its MUGEN code end results are not what they he/she/it wants, or when many other MUGEN people keep e-bashing/e-trolling/e-bullying/e-haunting his/her/its MUGEN stuff. Well, you can keep retiring MUGEN and returning to MUGEN but your MUGEN Personality will hardly change.
For pure MUGEN Players, while most of them care only playing (and collecting), but some might want to try to change something in their downloaded MUGEN stuff for their liking, for example, one might want to disable some Auto-MUGEN-A.I. but he/she/it just doesn't know how to do that, and when they ask around and don't get any answer, they will probably give up MUGEN or something like that. Only if MUGEN coding could be as handy as 2D Fighter Maker (95/2002), while keeping all the complicated MUGEN logic in that.......
